Initial lucid experiences and how to control them.

I had a dream last night, usually I utterly hate my dream but this one was manageable. It was fairly simple, I was getting fired at work in a nasty public lynching. This was kind of interesting as my dreams dont usually involve so specific an event. Also this one had a very direct contrast with my current reality ergo I was able to identify it as a dream.

So there I was, aware I was dreaming and thinking "take control, take control" wasnt able to, then I dont remember anything so im assuming I woke up or change to a different kind of sleep. Any ideas?

I've found that, in general, once I realize that I'm dreaming, it's VERY easy to wake myself up or fall out of lucidity. Generally, when I'm lucid, I'm also somewhat aware of my waking circumstances, and movements in my dreams tend to cause movements in my waking body unless I'm very careful. I've caused myself to wake up several times just from blinking in the dream which causes me to open my waking eyes. I've also found that typically, I can do... whatever I believe that I can do. If that makes sense. I have to truly believe that I can do something and picture myself doing it for it to happen in the dream. But if it's too outlandish, I guess subconsiously, I can't wrap my mind around it, and it just doesn't happen. And other times, it seems that the dream itself takes its own direction even though I'm affecting it more profoundly with my actions.

... That's just me, though.

Aha, good thing I decided to stick around until the forums are back up, eh?

Anyway, dream conrol can be quite tricky, until it just 'clicks'. Here's a little list of established techniques that people find effective:

- Rub your hands together (I guess the feeling it creates maked the dream seem more real and as a result increases mental clarity)

- Spin in a circle. (Same effect I guess, though in my experience it ofter results in me apearing in a different dreamscape when I stop)

- Simple, sharp verbal commands (Saying things like "Increase control!" and "Increase clarity!" can really help, hell you have enough control to say these things, by using that contol to assert more control it sort of builds up. If that makes sense.)

One thing you should NOT do is close your eyes when trying to make something happen, that often results in waking up for some reason.

Spinning is something i always use for changing dreamscapes, so to see it being used for staying in lucidty is weird XD Unless of course you were to keep on spinning and spinning and esentialy you'd just keep warping stuff and not waking up ahah.

Whenever I come close to being lucid, it's usually when I'm flying or gliding, or sliding along underwater.  And at those times, I'm perfectly content to go with the flow and enjoy the experience.

So even when I have a sense of "Oh, this is  a dream" I don't have the desire to take control.

Though I will try when the situation is unpleasant.
Like when I was a kid, dreaming of being in bed in gym class with the teacher yelling.
I woke up, then growled at myself and went back to bed, had the same dream, and ordered the character to lay off because it was a dream and he had no business messing it up XD
That's my thing.  For control, I usually need to wake up and get right back to sleep.
