SV1 - Backwards infinite discussion

tabitha 03-31-2006, 6:49 PM
I think the secret to getting the 600k plus on SV is going to be the backwards infinte, I have managed to get it a few times but I dont really have any consitent theories. I will put up a couple of quick and dirty  pictures later tonight but does anyone have any ideas?

The key seems to doing a paraloop but flying towards the palace a little way drawing the loop into more of an oval shape so the star trail acctually connects on the far left of the group of items giving you that extra split second to get over.

any ideas?

I've managed it only a couple of times - what I've done it what I do during SMm1 group of stars just before the palace. Dash into the bottom chip, fly forward a small way, then loop up and behind you, flying into the far left hand chip, then paralooping and dashing towards the palace. But, yeah, i'm hardly an expert on SV...

Was Lance Way's m1 score using the backward infinite? I've got just 2k under it with the standard 28 link runs, so maybe the infinite too unreliable?

Yeah, to the best of my knowlege it was. The score for SV1 forwards is about 72k ish I think and thats a PERFECT run with no mistakes. So it tops out at 2k less than lances current run. I think his current SV1 was "only" a link of 100 or so and im assuming it would be possible to increase that by 10 000 or possibly a fair bit more.

I think that a link of much more than 100 is impossible - at that stage of a link, is the time frame to continue it decreases (at 11, 50 and 100 it does it that I think). And when its at that stage, I just dont think the paralooped items would take you any further.

Well, 72k is my record and yeah, it was 28 links nearly all the way. I'll keep at it...

Got a 113 link. I reckon that its proper infinite - loads of times I've got a really good paraloop and been close to the ring on the other side of the palace with items still hanging around.

The loop really is a bugger. My current tactic is dashing through the left star, and while still dashing grabing the top star and looping anticlockwise and dashing out, being carefull to grab as few items as possible; especially the furthest chips on the right, they're the key.

I love it when you're dragging an item and if follows you for a second...

I think I understand that I will give it a try and see if I can put down a video. I am doing something similar but I didnt think to leave the ships on the far right.

A couple of things - its very important to dash 'late' out of the paraloop. Again, difficult to explain (I should really stop being cheap and get at least a webcam) - you dash out at two o'clock, as opposed to 5 o'clock.

Also, obviously as close to the top of the palace as possible, and dash down into that first horizontal yellow ring - when I go into automatic, I always switch to trying to fly down under it and dash up - which usually means the difference between getting the link and not.

I've watched through your recording again - your runs at 1.08 and  2.04 are pretty much what I do.

Just got a 197 link - so its definitily a proper infinite.

Slightly different strategy - dash through the right and top stars, then do a paraloop taking the left star as your centre point, trying not to touch the right hand chips and the bottom star - then dash out at 12 o'clock - letting the paraloop collect those items you left.

To be honest though, I dont think SV1 will get much higher than 80k, if even that (my 197 link run still only netted me 74600). Its all about SV3 - 5 dreamies is going to be difficult...

I still need to practice that damn backwards infinite... I just can't seem to extend the paraloop with any consistency and hit the rings without passing through the Ideya Palace.

I'll get it eventually, though... I'm persistent like that.

Ok, lets get the ball rolling again. ABPs vs Reverse Infinites.

ABPs - less than 9 seconds a lap, thats 12 laps in total, thats 4900 pts per lap, 11000 for bonus time, plus 4950 chip bonus, total of 74750 (the odd coming from pre-bonus time pts and the marans)

Reverse Infinite - atleast 10 seconds a lap, so no more than 11 laps. Thats a link of 308 tops which is 60900pts plus the above, total of 76850

Which means that the infinite is better - have I got my figures right? Check out the new Gameplay Overview page for a list of pts etc :)

Oh and Pete whats your link record for SV1?

Yeah, I always knew the infinite was better. But, for people like me who fail the infinite hard, ABPs are a lifesaver. It gets almost as good of a score while maintaining a simplicity I can work with. The backwards infinite would take more time for me to get the hang of than its currently worth, considering the other work I have to do in that Dream. Good for you guys who can do it though!

I think that the important part is leaving the bottom star and far right chip - I made vid for it here

The backwards thing is interesting.. tried it for the first time yesterday, didn't do so good XP

I also learned that you can screw yourself over pretty bad by switching directions in the wrong manner.. nothing respawns..

Yeah, its a tricky thing, and surprisingly not worth it in the grand scoring scheme of SV - its only 1k extra and its reliable enough (imo)

With the respawning thing - as long as you complete that last lap backwards (ie go over the palace, grabbing a few of the rings just to the left of it) then shouldnt have a problem with SV2. Its when I have a incompleted lap that it causes problems.

Good luck!
