Gillwing ahoy!

Lance Way 03-16-2006, 4:41 AM

So yeah, I noticed that three of us have managed scores of 113 against Gillwing now (myself, tabitha and Miles), and I was just wondering what method you guys were using to get the score? While I think the method shown in tabitha's vid:

http://www.scoreattack.net/gameboss.php

...is the easiest one to execute, I've still not managed a score of 113 with it yet, only 112; is 113 possible this way? The method I've used to get 113 was fairly different, and I've temporarily uploaded a really poor-quality old video of it here:

http://panzerdragoon.net/underground_ruins/lance_way/forum_stuff/gillwing_112_lw.avi

...well, that's the method at least, though in the video I don't actually get the 113.

And are any other approaches possible...? Although both of these methods get the 2.0 neither of them looks really fast to me, and I was just thinking that a super-hardcore balls-to-the-wall turbo paraloop might possibly snatch a 114...

Thats the exact method I used but I find it FAR more hit and miss. Gillwing is my almost guarenteed 2.0 choice when using the method I taped, its possible to get a 2.0 with no boost remaining.

I have been planning to get a video of the over the top version but I am trying to get clawz taped so I never ever have to play him again:)

I dont think the paraloop needs to be particularly large by the way, I think it only needs to touch the tail but I might be wrong?

Ah, so you did use that method (the over-the-top-of-Gillwing one) to get 113? (Or am I misreading your post?) You're right about the paraloop size as far as I know though, in fact that's what makes me get only 112 rather than 113 in that video, I think; I juse waste too much time doing a huge loop. I suspect that if you were to do the over-the-top method and do a really small, compact paraloop you could maybe scrape 114, but it's a bugger trying to get a small loop in the right place for it to connect...

YEah, sorry if I wasnt very clear, I used the over the top method. Also interesting to note. Wyldflower from the NID boards does Gillwing from behind but by flying OVER the tail. I dont know if that makes and difference to the time though.

I managed to get 114 on Gillwing earlier.  :)  I used a different method for getting it, and it's easily repeatable so I made a video of it:

The quality is terrible (you can't even read the time :\), but it's better than nothing.

Miles thats truly amazing, I will try to get a decent quality capture of this (of course with full noise and fanfare for you good self on the front page) and share it with the masses.

Very Very impressive stuff indeed.

For future reference, it looks like the focus setting on your cam might have been out by a little. I tried doing some cam recordings a while back and setting it to infinite focus (usually a little 8 symbol but laid on its site) sorted it out.

I would love to see and more videos of any more cool tricks you happen to come up with.

Actually, I used a webcam to capture it, and I have no clue how to change the settings for it. :\

Well, I dont know about yours, but its possible to adjust the focus of the camera by twisting the lense itself. Web cams are generally set to focus on things very close to them as the tend to sit on top of the monitor within a couple of feet of the user but there should be a way to adjust it.

Regardless its a fantastic time and a creative way of capturing video.

o_O I wish I had known that a long time ago...

Here's a MUCH better quality 114 video:

Miles, I just watched the second video. That absolutely amazing and I would love to make noise on the front bpage about it but what the hell is going on?

It looks like you fly THROUGH Gillwings tail? The quality is a little unclear so I cant quite see what is happening. If you could clarify this, perhaps will a quick paint sketch or something I would be most greatful.

I once I understand what the strat is, I will record a slightly clearer version, if you would be kind enough to add a little point by point description I would be very happy to add it into the boss section. I will of course give you full credit.

You actually fly next to Gillwing's tail;  There's a part near the middle where the tail actually isn't on the flight path.  I made another video to try to show what's going on...

Ha ha, I had no idea it was possible to just fly next to the tail! Good job working that method out, and I guess that puts my concern about what the "fastest strategy" is to rest. :) This is clearly a lot quicker than those methods me and tabitha came up with, and I'm guessing that nothing can really beat it...

Yeah, that's the easiest way by far, but definitely not the fastest.  I recently (finally) managed to catch 'im all in one paraloop.  Not a very impressive time yet, but I'll be building that up.

The time is the same, but the quality is slightly better... ;)
