114 + 117 + 109 + 60 = 400 x 2 = 800K

I think this is now do-able, and it's just a matter of someone having a great run with this. All of the scores above have been achieved or bettered, save for the 60k on FB4 which can for sure be done.

Without using any questionable methods, I reckon it will be:

115 + 114 + 115 + 60 x 2 = 808,000

SA.nets Potential - 116,870+117,420+117670 +57450 x2 = 818820

Do you still doubt those JNP scores Peter? Just SC and SM to go...

Yeah, I'm a believer.

Are you kidding? I still doubt :) Though, it is mighty fun to try to beat them.

A couple of strategies I have been experimenting with, so that the 'magical' 804k can be shattered not broken:

FB1: By tightening the paraloops (perhaps using the Airbrake, haven't tried yet) you can get a full lap out of the last lap rather than a half-lap. This may lead to a score of 115k or 116k using 'legit' methods.

FB2: By grabbing the minimum # of chips / stars at the ladders it may be possible to squeeze an extra lap out of this. I have almost got it going, just needs some refining. Still not using the Stunt Rings even though Lui posted a much better score using this method. PS, Lui's strat and my new strat pretty much outclass the FB2 infinite - I can get more bomus balls opened by ignoring the infinite.

FB3 - Again a case where the most links / infinite is not yielding the best score. I have consistently managed 120k or better by giving the snowballs my highest attention - by flying past many items I have managed a full, complete extra lap out of this mare and, let's face it, that's a 50 link in the snowballs plus an extra bonus ball.

FB4 - Link everything while flying, hit every bonus ball, and also grab everything possible BEFORE bonus time (instread of trying to reach the Capture as fast as possible) will yield over 60k.

I kid you not, an absolutely perfect run can be as high as 860,000...

Any thoughts?

FB1 - you'll only be able to use air braked paraloops with the first group of items, but yeah it should be useful.

FB2 - the route I take (roughly drawn below) only just opens up the link ball during the rings after the bars, so I take a very minimalist approach to that section. But it gives me 4 full laps with 4 bonus time stunt ribbons.

FB3 - What do you bother not paralooping? The circular snowball group, the group of stars after it, and/or the groupd left of the palace?

FB4 - How many laps do you do, getting everything on the way?

For FB3, I dash thru the group of stars after the circular snowballs, and the group left of the palace. I do loop the circular snowballs.

For FB4, I get 4 laps, with 3 being in Bonus time. I have a video of this which I can send to you if you want.

For my FB2 flight path, if you tell me how to insert an image into a post like you just did, I will try to draw it.

(IMG)full web address(/IMG), but just replace all the ( ) with [ ] or just put up the link for it.

FB4 - ah I've always tried to get 5 laps, 4 in bonus time - so you only have to worry about the link ball four times?

Any vids you got Peter, put on youtube. I wish I had more time to play Nights, theres loads of things I want to experiment with and perfect...

114,610 + 114,550 + 112,590 + 60,580 x2 = 804,660

The dubious Japanese score falls!

Actually, if you look at all the Mare scores, this could have been better. Let's take a 'perfect' Mare 1, all Dreamies on Mare 2 (for the 800k scores I ignored the stunt ribbons), and near perfect Mare 3 and 4 scores, and we can get:

115,000 + 130,000 + 125,000 + 60,000 x2 = 860,000.

So, shall we start a Frozen Bell 900k thread? O_o

Personally, I think 860 - 875k has to be the max for this Dream.

Comments?

You mean the dubious score that you've measured yourself against and strived relentlessly for? That score? Or do you mean this one?

Sarcasm aside, congrats man, a very impressive achievement, a landmark in SA.net's history (3rd WC?) and a conclusion to this thread started 10 months ago to the day!!!

Ha ha, well it's time to let the cat out of the bag... yea the closer I got to 800k the more likely it seemed that it was real.

Re the Skytopia score: I sent an email to the mystery player, and here is an excerpt from his reply:

I visited the scoreattack.net site. It's great to see a high score web site dedicated to this brilliant game. Some years ago, I was hoping to find a site like this and it it long overdue.

My Saturn has been gathering dust for a while now sadly, so I'm not sure if I can still find my Nights scores. I still have them recorded (and me actual
playing) on an old VHS video tape somewhere, which I used as evidence for submitting them to the UK games magazine CVG.

If I get the time and there's enough demand, I might submit my scores to the site. However, it would take a long time to find the video tape or even the CVG magazine which featured my scores and I know the site now requires a certain level of proof before accepting submissions.

I was surprised to learn from scoreattack.net that just over 800,000 is the Japanese record. It was about that amount 8 years ago, when it was first published in CVG, so I would imagine someone must have scored higher since then. My 826,100 I don't consider to be too impressive as I made a couple of mistakes throughout the level (one costing me -5 seconds), but the trick is the stunt ribbon, which can achieve silly amounts of points with practise (I used to get about 4 or 5 "dreamies" per ribbon).

Anyway, thanks for the compliments. Playing Nights all those years ago was truly a magical experience - maybe I'll return to it some day ;-)

So, it would seem that the Record was beaten years ago... in any case, I shall try to persuade the mystery player to join our community. I think that without using the Stunt Ribbons, I should still be able to beat the Skytopia score... though barely. In order to take it to the realms of 850k, it would seem I will have to finally dedicate some time to the whole Stunt Ribbon thing. They're just so darn frustrating!!!

Cheers Miles. I've emailed him, so hopefully we'll have another scoremister (sorry) soon - and it would be facinating to see an 800k+ run of FB in full (and all those dreamies)
