I know, how frustrating is that? I was flying around the course trying out new stuff, but my mind was on something else, and when it happened, I was in shock and had no idea what I had just done. I took the pic to prove it was not a hoax, but it may as well have been, 'cause I can't reproduce it. I'll have to give it some time this weekend to see if I can re-create it.

You were higher than the row of orange rings up-left of the capture?
Only 12k away from 800k!

I reckon my 117420 for FB2 proves that 4 stunt ribbons are the way to go, though it would be interesting to see if a five lap infinite would better that strategy.
But that SR was only with a Dreamy,10,9+7 - 4 dreamies would put FB2 in the region of 130k, which would be more than enough to
break 800k
113+130+110+52 x2= 810

Holy cow, nice FB2 score!
I think you and I are going to hit 800K in different ways. I refuse to do the stunt ribbons.
I'm gonna do 115 + 111 + 110 + 64 = 400 x 2 = 800
I have hit new PRs / SRs again on almost every FB so I know I can do 800k this way too.
So will we have to start a 900k thread? LOL

If you can get FB4 over 60k I will be very impressed. I still find that link bal the hardest in the game
And why the dislike of stunt ribbons? Getting a dreamy means over 15k in bonus time - you'd have to get over a 70 link in 10 secs to beat that. They become the centre of any mare's strategy when they appear - SV3 especially.
Have you seen the old Japanese high scores pic? Thats why we got an 800k topic http://www.scoreattack.net/images/200604/sco.bmp
...if we got up to 900k that would be insane!

Yea that link ball is really tough, I can only get it 3 times out of 5 on an average run. I figure a 'perfect' run would be about 64k.
Stunt ribbons are way too random for me. I can't hit over 9 on them so I don't bother. Plus, for me they wreck the flow of the mare. Do you use a certain strat for them? How do you hit Dreamies so often?
FB2 infinite - not yet, but haven't spent much time on it truth to be told. Now that we have a 117k score though, I will try to see if a full infinite can beat that. IMO, it should be able to, though if you can get a Dreamy each time, then I would think that would be the best strat.
The Japanese high scores - I have a real issue with them. I have been playing NiGHTS for 10 years now (got my copy in '96 when I was 15...) and have NEVER seen anything about these scores aside from this mysterious magazine clipping. Come on: 'We have seen the scores and know they are real' my foot. Anyone could have printed that. Granted, the scores are high / in the realm of possibility but I think this is more of a testament to the genius of NiGHTS itself... If I were to say I hit 900K on FB then we would all be trying to get it, and bit by bit our scores would improve well over 800k. Remember what was recently discovered in Soft Museum?

The JNP scores - I dunno Pete, I dont think its a coincidence that we have those scores in NiD mythology and we, as (the only active?) Western online forum, have only beated one and just now getting close to the others. As good as the game is, I dont think infinite scores are possible, just constant improvement - within reason. And yeah, I remember the SM discovery - I did it! :) And thats only possible because of an abused aspect/glitch, which still could be refined.
Stunt Ribbons - I felt the same thing as you do, but about collecting chips pre-lap 1. I just didnt like the idea of it, I wasn't used to it and never bothered doing it. But then I read Lance's thread, and saw how he got them so quickly in his FB (achingly just under) 700k vid, and that made me try it out - and there's been no looking back since. Yes, stunt rings are random, yes they are diffcult and yes no one here can help you with them (except pointing out about the floor glitch), but try getting any kind of score in mare 3 of SG, SC, MF and (of course) SV and see how far you get. I'd love to see someone as proficient at FB as you applying that dedication to Stunt rings... theres a thread about it in General, check out some of the vids here, and there's a vid at youtube where someone does a 'superb' 10 stunt as well.
Overall, any chance you could do some recording of your runs, either my webcam or capturecard? Be interesting to see how you do FB in general.
ps - very very cool, I got NiD in '96 when I was 16

Wow. o_O I'm 16 now. Got NiGHTS when I was six. I think it influenced
me subconsciously. I hate industry (thanks, Stick Canyon Mare 4), and
like the stars and flying.
Ah well. That's what I love about NiGHTS. Ten years and still improving and discovering.

Lui - Perhaps you're right and it is time I investigated Stunt Rings. Man, that will be 10 years of habit to break. Still, my question to you would be: do you 'stop' your run in the mare and just do stunts and then resume the mare, or do you do stunts while still flying thru rings, grabbing chips, etc...
Floor Glitch? Interesting.
Recording: not really feasible at the moment but I will see what I can do with my camera. It will probably turn out choppy though. Do you have any of your gameplay vids posted anywhere?
JP scores - still doubt them. Do we even know which mag the clip was from? Do the JP players have pics? How do we know they weren't the Saturn glitching up memory as has happened to me a few times? Are those scores possible? Yes. But they would have been achieved around '96, right? So fast after the game's release? Hmmm
Aside: What is Lance Way up to these days? Just finished Panzer Saga again and his Secrets guide on the net was the greatest.
Kraken: everything about NiD is pretty surreal, eh? When it came out there was nothing like it artistically, conceptually, etc... and there still isn't. Yeah, that was a pretty influential game for me. It just makes me sad that the current games do not interest me in the slightest and the magic of games such as NiD seems to be lost. Sigh.
OK this post is getting long and off-topic. :)

Check this thread
The wall glitch - basically hit a floor/wall/ceiling while doing a stunt and it cuts it short, but gives you the points for it. It was fixed in Xmas NiD
And yeah, basically come to a stop in your run, though it doesnt hurt to be in areas where theres items around, ie the MF3 cave, and in FB2, where the row of items and rings are after and below the bar. But keep up the infinite runs, that might do it too. Any luck with it yet?

Well I will spend some time trying out the stunts as well as getting that infinite in FB2.
If we take the site's records now, our collective potential for this mare is what... 790k? That's awesome.
When I take a vid of a run of FB, I will post it on the NiGHTS section of my website.

Your FB1+4, and my FB2+3 make 393690! We are so close! less than 7k to break 800, and less than 9k to beat the JNP score... if I can get 3 dreamies+ or you could get the infinite going with FB2 or improve FB4 then we're set - and come on Kraken get with it! lol

Haha, I think I wont be able to do anything this time. I can make a lot
of things work with the digital controller, but not the stunt rings. It
doesnt really seem possible to keep the stunts and the link going
simultaneously (and trust me, I've tried), so I think I'll leave the
800k to you guys. =)
I'm rooting for you all!
