I feel so good right now.

Proof is on its way.

With Pleasure,

edit: Proof is completely updated. Old "Mystic Forest" proofs submitted earlier in this forum will have broken links due to some organizing I did in my photobucket.com albums. I'm still keeping the images archived, but does anybody care if I simply remove those old links? Anyway, enjoy!

Great stuff! We now have 2 out of the 6 known world records. Im proud of you guys. I would also like to hear any ideas you have MF strat wise in the MF forum and also dont worry to much about moving your old pictures around. I acctually save the pictures in a directory on SA.net which makes them FAR easier to update and things when people come upt with new scores. Thanks for the concern though.

Xmas Nights (Claris)

Swept away with the spirit of Christmas, I decided to boot up the one and only game I have to satisfy my mood. Anyway, I made some excellent progress with these scores, and I actually performed moderately well on Mare 3 considering the circumstances.

Link Attack really taxes my patience, but I'll try and persevere. Maybe I'll give it another go tonight. I may just have to create a plan, like pausing the game every thousand links to preserve my sanity.

Time Attack induced a little bit of creativity, the results of which I am going to attempt to incorporate into some of my standard NiGHTS gameplay. I'm going to make a post regarding this topic in the 'Spring Valley' subforum when I get some more time tonight. It ought to be something to look forward to.

Yeah, so, the strategies I was considering while playing Christmas NiGHTS definitely shine through in the Mare 1 and Mare 2 scores. I will do a write up on this, because I feel that the technique is worth noting.

600k is clearly within reach, I just don't know if I want to tax myself any more than I already have with this Dream's third Mare. Maybe sometime later...

Merry Christmas!

All up to date, sorry its taken a while but the SA.net database has been grinding along something awful so I gave up twice yesterday. All up to date now, Congratulations on your scores, great work there.

PS

I have no idea why but the database isnt taking your new Time Attack score for some reason, I tried a bunch of times and it looks like its going in, gives no error message but doesnt show up as updated in the table.. I will figure it out as soon as I can. Really sorry.

OK, Sorry this took such a long time to get updated but I wanted to sort out the database first. It now take times as it should do and even displays them in a vaguely sane format! Sorry about the wait but you are now up to date. Congratulations of the highest order!

Yep, it's yours :). I only borrowed it temporarily using Multiple Dreamies... BTW, I suspect if you pull off a really good MF3, you (probably not me) should be able to hit 800k.

800k?

Thanks, Peter. I'm sure that with work, either of us could get 800k MF branded on our sides. You've got way superior Dreamy skills (mine are still inconsistent), while I've got some damn solid non-Mare 3 strats. I'll make an 800k MF thread for us in its respective sub-forum when I get home today.

edit: Wow, I'm quite a liar. No 800k thread yet, though I may get around to it sometime soon.

Small improvements, I know, but I'm getting better. I'm so upset because I almost nailed a solid 77,000 for Mare 1 using ABPs, but got a 27 / 28 on one lap, missing 200 points. Also, this is by far the best I've ever done on Mare 2 for a long while... I'm very pleased with it, but it has SO much room for improvement. First of all, I only get the paraloop around those stars about half of the time. Even more elusive is the giant loop around the tree; I've gotten that a total of three times, not in the same run. Any advice?

Mare 3 is still stubborn as a mule. I had another 80k run, but nothing that topped any of the other records. However, I did find an interesting tidbit that could potentially help. We all know about that silly stunt-into-the-wall glitch that was removed from Xmas NiGHTS. Well, if you do a stunt into an enemy, it grabs the enemy and seems to give full points for the stunt, effectively canceling the stunt animation and netting you a small loop (if you haven't done one yet). Not too game-breaking, but every little bit helps! I find it's most effective after the first Stunt Loop in the Mare, as there's a purple bird-thingy floating about right after it. Leave the bird alive the first lap (as bonus time is not yet activated), and use it two nab two quick stunts the second time around.

Also, has anybody figured out the mechanics of when air-braking yields points as a stunt? I try to finish all of my Stunt Loops with an air-brake which cancels another stunt; Every so often, I get points for the stunt. Weird.

So, I think the ultimate goal for this Dream would be 600k total. 77k + 67k + 93k? + 63k. That kind of score on Mare 3 would require consistent Nine's with maybe two Ten's or a Dreamy, I should think. But, I'm no stunt expert. Anybody want to investigate the possibility for breaking 600k?

Best Wishes,
blackrabite

P.S.: My parents just bought themselves a Wii, so I am actively hunting down a copy of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams to play whenever I come down from college. I realize it's not ideal for score-attacking - that strategy for scoring in Memory Forest is just boring - but it seems like it would be fun play otherwise. Anybody want to tell me what to expect? I've never played it before, and all I know is that I look forward to it. Send me a PM, will ya fellas? This place looks like it's gettin' quiet...

Mare 1 - 76570 (<--- needs fixing. Site says 76750 by error)
Mare 2 - 68240 (PR)
Mare 3 - 119960 (PR)
Mare 4 - 63260 (PR)
Total - 623940 (PR)

I know I can break 77k in Mare 1 with ABPs. It just has to be flawless, and I need to get a 10k+ bonus for opening the Ideya Capture as early as possible. Mare 2 is getting there... I still fumble around with the star section a bit, and the biggest thing getting me now is getting the last paraloop before circling the tree to link every time. Bah.  Mare 3 is still the bane of my existence, but I am intent on practicing Dreamies until I can compete again. Keep an eye out.

Now then, Mare 4... in most Dreams, one can get 255 stars by the end of the fourth Mare. As we know, this is not usually the case with Spring Valley. Is a viable strategy to sacrifice the scores for all other laps in order to collect as many stars as possible for the fourth lap? That would give a nice 1k boost, methinks. I'm gonna give it a try sometime, 'cause Peter's Mare 4 is just too far above the rest of ours for comfort . *wink*

My potential for this dream is 650k+ with my current scores, but I know that I can get back into the top three with a good Mare 3. My school week should be relatively bare next week (as opposed to the hell this one was), so I look forward to spending more time with NiGHTS soon.

I hope you're all doing well!
~Ben
