New Star Trek film

So, anyone else interested in this? I went to see it on the 7th. To my disappointment, I was the only person in uniform.

Anyway, I recommend you all go see it. If you aren't a Trekkie, you'll love it. And if you are a Trekkie, then we'll be able to get J.J. Abrams banned from ever working on another Star Trek film.

I'm not a Trekkie, and you're right: I found it to be most entertaining. Heck, it was even funny in quite a few spots. I'm not sure if this in the spirit of the show or anything, but it felt like the movie was just having fun with itself, and that made it easier for me to have fun with it. All I remember about the other movies is that the Borg terrified me as a child. Like, damn. Probably scared me off from ever getting into Star Trek.

Could you elaborate on what you like / didn't like about it from a series follower's point of view? I'm curious to know. Also, tell me more about Phantasy Star Zero, please!

Regards,

I disliked chekov's hair style, the new Kirk (he wasn't even remotely Shatner-like), how the events at the beginning of the film changed the rest of the Star Trek series completely, how at multiple scenes I could see Zachary Quinto's Wig, how they used the words "no one" and "ongoing" at the end (those were introduced in next generation. At that time it was "no man" and "five year"), how at the end they didn't correct history, how it was much more action-oriented than other Original Series films, and plenty of other things that I can't remember.

I liked how similar Quinto was to Nimoy, when Nimoy made an appearance in the film, that they never said "Beam me up, Scotty" (that line has never been said in any episode), the scene in the computer simulation (only time Pine sort-of reminded me of Shatner), the very end (aside from the problems I noted above) was a nice tribute to the original series, especially with the music. It wasn't part of the film, but I also liked Steven Colbert's interview with J.J. Abrams. The movie's attempts to imitate original series humor were good, but the attempt at new humor wasn't.

So the lists look around the same size. But, the things I liked were all minor compared to the things I disliked and had to see throughout the whole film.

I remember getting frightened by the borg when I was younger too, although I continued watching Star Trek anyway. I've watched it ever since I was 3 or 4 or something like that. Whoever thought up the Borg was trying to scare people away from the show.

If you've played Phantasy Star Online or Phantasy Star Universe, the Phantasy Star Zero is like PSO with elements of PSU in it. If you compare the game to PSO, the new things it has are Photon Arts (taken from PSU), weapon elements (also from PSU. In PSO there were no photon arts you couldn't change a weapons element (known as a special in PSO)), the ability to roll (which is really quite nice), two new classes (HUnewm and HUmarl) and redefined the classes. Hunters are now fancy shields. Ranger do, well, I'm not quite sure what. Forces are overpowered, do an insanely large amounts of damage with their techs, and do melee damage using MST. They've got low HP, but with high MST and such a large damage output, can afford to resta themselves whenever they want. So, those would be the good sides. It's heaps of fun. Now, the downsides. the game is quite short. I played it for around 2-3 weeks (although I did play most of the day, due to it being the school break) before I'd pretty much finished the game. It would've taken me longer if I wasn't a Force (No one knew they were overpowered when I got the game, but we soon found that out). There are 8 areas, each one 10+ rooms large, depending on if you go straight to the end or take side-paths. Hit % is extremely easy to get, compared to PSO. There are 3 different difficulty levels for the game. In each difficulty there is a quest called the Eternal Tower. This tower is 101 floors, so it takes ages to go through, and at the top you fight an easy boss, and have a small chance of getting one of the best items in the game for defeating that boss. Oh, I forgot to mention, the Tower is offline only, and you can't turn off your DS while you do it. So no going through as a team, which would make it much more fun. Those woulds be my major complaints, so overall a good game, but try not to play it all day. Once you get into the 90s, though, you've done pretty much everything (aside from the best weapons in the ET) and don't have much of a reason to keep playing on that character. I've been level 91 (max level is 100) since late January/Early February. I've played for less than 15 minutes since then, which was enough time for me to play through the final area and defeat the boss (Forces are especially overpowered at high levels).
