Nights PS2
Reply Quote

Hi to all. New member here (long-time lurker)

Well I've just got NiGHTS for the PS2 and I absolutely love it. It plays very similarly to the Saturn version although there are a few small differences (I'm finding the bosses a little trickier and the 28-link on SV1 is now REALLY difficult)

However one thing I'm delighted about is that the Stunt-Ribbon wall glitch still works, and I can now do it quite well. (always struggled to perfect it on the Saturn).

Just got over 700K on Spring Valley with only a 1.9 multiplier. Looking forward to the PS2 scores section of your site opening.

Welcome Genernal. Glad to see someone new and that I'm not the only one playing the remake!

I'm still undecided about the scoring... if people starting break the game (ie by having stunt ribbons easier to do) then I'll do a separate section I think. Good luck!

Yep if you are going to do PS2 scores it'll need another section as some things are easier and some are harder.

Stunt ribbon definitely easier for me, mainly because hitting both shoulder buttons doesn't end the ribbon, so you can mash away on both buttons while hugging the wall.

Are you enjoying the remake more after playing it for a while? I think they've done a great job.

Welcome, General.

Does anyone know if the PS2 remake is getting a Western release? I assume 'no' since none of the SEGA AGES remakes have made it over, but thought I'd ask.

Well, after completing PDS and the SF3 trilogy, Shining the Holy Ark and Dragon Force, I am slowly getting my NiGHTS game back on... dang, I am rusty though. And I see I need to perhaps boost my FB scores with the arrival of scoring master Charlie!

Hi Peter

No release is planned outside Japan at the moment I'm afraid. I'd say it's worth modding your console for though.

Charlie's vids are awesome aren't they? It's taken me 11 years to get half-decent at Spring Valley. To be that good on all the levels is just amazing.

Alright guys how shall we do PS2 scores?

I can easily create a quick one page deal (format ideas? Just site records? Just note worth mares that play differently?), but it will take ages to do a full scale, ps2 section... and if its just me and Zod submitting...

Hey General, welcome to the site! Over 700k on SV with a 1.9 is pretty dang good! That's pretty cool that they left the stunt glitch in the ps2 version. How much easier is it?? How many dreamies do you guys get on a ribbon??

It's nice to hear some buzz around NiGHTS again. It's been a while since anyone has talked about it around here.

I'm planning on buying a fat ps2 and installing a hard drive so I can play the ps2 version, but it will be a while before I get it all working. Still have to buy everything and then figure it all out.

Peter, I can't wait to get back to FB! I haven't played it in what seems like a long time. I'm growing tired of JoD and want to get back to some serious scores in NiD. I'd love to see some updates from you...I know you can beat a bunch of my scores.

I think it's definitely worth setting up a PS2 page (if not a section). I think there will be a number of people who will import it.

Later guys

PS...gsk, did you miss my score on SC? It doesn't seem to be updated yet...thanks!

Hi Charlie

Stunt Ribbon seems much the same except for being able to do both buttons without ending it. I had this terrible habit on the Saturn of pressing both buttons and I couldn't break the habit. I find it hard to count the dreamies but I do know my score on SV3 is over 200k.

Hi guys

Just got 230k on SV3 but I'm really struggling with these bosses. Woulda had well over 800K that time if I got a 2.0.

Anyone else finding the bosses much harder on the PS2 version? Puffy's a LOT harder (rotates a lot faster when you grab her), and looping Gillwing's tail sometimes isn't enough to finish him.

I'll post some vids when I get a chance. In the middle of moving house atm and the PS2's at the new place, the DVD recorder and the PC are not. Should get everything together in a month or so.

Wow, that's a nice score for SV3! It'd be awesome if you get a chance to do some vids. And I remember gsk saying somewhere that Gillwing's tail was tougher.

I just purchased the ps2 version from play-asia and it should be here within the next couple of weeks, so I'm looking forward to joining in on the fun.

gsk, nice job on getting the ps2 page set up so quickly

Has anyone noticed the response times are slightly slower on the PS2 version? It's still good, but when they reprogrammed it, the response time of the analog stick is just not quite as fast as the original.

Hi Rumble

No all seems fine here as far as the controls go. The PS2 pad's not as perfect as the Saturn one but still great.

GSK are you accepting JPG's as proof of scores? I can get some at the weekend.

I was watching this video of Mystic Forest and I noticed that on his last lap of mare 2 he didn't complete a full lap but the chips still reappeared on mare 3. Normally when you did this on the saturn version the chips and other objects would not respawn on the next mare. Have they fixed/changed this in the PS2 version? Or am I not remembering this correctly and you could do this on the saturn version?

Zod, yeah any standard pic format is find, but I won't need proof unless they beat any of the saturn scores. Submit away!

Charlie, I'm sure they respawned in the original. Thast way you can backtrack in MF3 and get the 3 chips again, the chip cage and then the rest on the way to the capture and not have to paraloop drag them from behind the 'road sign'.

Gsk, I just tried it on the saturn and they didn't respawn. They will only respawn on mare 3 if you paraloop them before completing the lap on mare 2. In the saturn version I believe it's the completion of a full lap that makes them respawn, not entering the ideya palace. I think the difference with the ps2 version is the respawn happens when you enter the ideya palace, because on the youtube video he started a reverse lap to paraloop the chips and even though he didn't complete a full lap they still reappeared on mare 3.

I guess it's not that big of a deal, but it will solve the problem of objects not reappearing like in the saturn version when you do reverse laps, and you could have slightly higher scores if you can collect a few more objects.
