A few questions about the Analog Pad
|
|
|
|
|
Alright, so currently I'm playing using the digital D-pad controller. I've been considering buying one for a while now, but I'd like to know a few things first:
1. Is the movement with the Analog pad significantly more precise than with the Digital? 2. Is it much easier to score as a result? 3. Does the range of possible scores stretch higher when using the Analog pad? 4. Is it difficult to make the transition from the Digital pad to the Analog one? And finally, 5. About how much can I find an Analog pad for, and where would be my best bet?
Anybody who can answer, please do, it'd be a big help. Thanks! ^^

1. Is the movement with the Analog pad significantly more precise than with the Digital?
In my opinion yes, I think that for high level play you need some
very tight paraloops and things and these are, once again in my
opinion, easier.
2. Is it much easier to score as a result?
Pretty much yes but again thats subjective.
3. Does the range of possible scores stretch higher when using the Analog pad?
Thats a categorical yes, you have 16 possible stunts on the digital pad
but 20 with the analog pad. So while it is possible to get the same
scores with the digital its easier with the analog.
4. Is it difficult to make the transition from the Digital pad to the Analog one?
I was a diehard digital player for the longest time but I switched over and it took me a day or two but now I would switch back.
And finally, 5. About how much can I find an Analog pad for, and where would be my best bet?
Ebay is your best bet and I wouldnt pay more than 15 or 20 dollars.
Basically Kraken has managed to get many top level score using only the
digital pad but most of the rest of us are all about analog. My only
complaint is the thumb pad is a little slippery and lack a bit of
traction. I use a little rubber thimble from a dime store which makes
things a lot easier for me.

Thanks for the answers, Tabitha. ^^ I'll probably get one once I get the chance to, then.

Hi, newbie here!
I'd just like to say that if you switch back to the digital pad you can actually perform tighter paraloops than with the analogue. Try it.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but I can make Nights parloop almost on the spot with d-pad by rotating it quickly. With the analogue pad you have to rotate slower and create a slightly bigger paraloop. If you rotate too fast he just turns around.
Try making mini-loops on course 2 of Soft Museum (bouncing off the floors in the museum) and maybe you'll see what I mean. I can easily get up to six loops with the d-pad. I usually switch over for that section.
So now I'm torn. It's more precise and nicer to play with the analogue, but I'm possibly missing out on points because my paraloops aren't as tight as they could be. Is there some technique for getting tighter paraloops with the analogue pad?

Hi Alex and welcome!
Thats a really interesting point. As I was reading it I thought, yeah
that might me useful, but when you said about the stunts in SM, then
you sold me! lol Six per jump?! Ben and I have only been able to get
4/5 on average. I'll have a play around with that.
Cheers for that,

If you got the analog pad, and if something where the D-Pad is better comes up, you could pause, and switch to the D-Pad on the analog pad...

I agree, I think switching might be the way to go, it looks like the analog pad is required with anything involving stunts though. Due the stunts aspect of the game still being fairly random there are a couple of stunts you cant perform on the digital but if the digital looks to be the way forward to on the SM small loops then I think flexibility may well be the approach.

Hey, you know when it says L+R for some stunts? What does that actually mean? It's just that when I press L+R together it makes NiGHTS come to a sudden stop. Probably a really stupid question but it's something I'm still puzzled about lol. X3

I think it means press a direction while holding both L and R - which means you need to press them one after another. Though, to be honest, I dont do any of those L+R stunts while going for dreamies

Thanks! I've never managed to get a Dreamy. I suck at the stunt ribbon. Most I've gotten is 8 or 9. :(
