Strategies, Paralooping, and Backwards Gillwing

Alright, as per the name, there are three points to this post, though the last 2 are pretty interconnected.

There is an intense lack of strategy in here for Xmas Nights (especially Sonic into Dreams, a lot of the other things in that game are pretty obvious). I've only been playing it for a few days now, so I'm the last person who should claim to be an authority on it. I know some of you have been working at it for some time, so any advice you can offer would be excellent.

Now I know all of you have noticed that the Link system in XN is far more forgiving: you get a damn lot longer time to get to the next item in your link. And as handy and interesting as that is, I've noticed that the paraloops seem to be more allowing as well. This isn't terribly important in normal gameplay, but means you can make far larger paraloops while fighting Gillwing. Personally, I can't do the normal under the tail trick to kill backwards Gillwing. But, with the massive paraloops, you can take out all of him in just 2 loops by setting them up for him to fly into. Took me 96 seconds, and I'm sure I'll figure out the under the tail trick backwards before I perfect it, but it's a good alternative to spending forever and a day getting used to the backwards under the tail trick.

Sometimes I fear that I'll never wake up... But that's better than never dreaming again.

I think a strategy for Sonic would be to know where each capture is, then work your way there picking 20 chips along the way. Just following the red/blue arrow will just lead you to the nearest chips - which imo won't be the fastest route.

The link/paraloop thing - yes I agree with you. The leeway is alot bigger with both, especially in the link attack.

Gilliwing - to be honest, the size of your paraloop isnt important its position

I have a couple of other things to work on, but I think I'll put a little of time this evening into mapping out Sonic's level. A physical map would make formulating a path a lot easier, and then it would all come down to finding the best/quickest path and hitting it perfectly.

Its Spring Valley that Sonic runs around right? his captures might match up with Claris' or Elliots dreams, so if you go to options and dream data it will give a map - unless Sonic has his own map.

Incidentally, his map perfectly matches Claris' version. But I mean a map including chip location and quantity. There are a lot of chips not on the actual courses, and a map is almost essential to plot out the fastest possible routes. I've noticed in my mapping efforts that a lot of trees have 2 chips in them, but not all. Which trees do and don't seems to come down to whatever the programmers felt was a good idea at the time.

Once I have a satisfactorily detailed map, I'm going to start doing comparisons to SV in the full game just as a matter of fulfilling my curiousity.
