Charlie's Scores
Reply Quote
Hey everyone, below is my first submission...I started playing NiGHTS about 2-3 weeks ago...a friend of mine used to have this game when I was a kid so I went onto ebay and bought a saturn and NiGHTS and now I am soooo addicted!! The scores that other people submitted are really impressive and there are a lot of great tips on this site...keep up the good work! I know I can improve on a lot of my scores so hopefully I'll have some updates on a regular basis. I bought xmas nights as well, but have only played it a couple of times so those scores could use some work too. I know I'm a late comer but I absolutely love this game and how much depth there is to the gameplay. Thanks to those who keep the site updated! Oh...and if I should provide any photos for proof just let me know and I will do it as soon as I can.

Hello and welcome Charlie! Always nice to see new players, especially with a nice set of scores!

Dont worry about proof - at the moment we only need it from Site Records, which shouldnt be too long from you I imagine :)

Anyway, check out the nid.com forum for a more active place to chat about Nights, and keep us updated

cya!

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome. I've been slowly working away at Spring Valley and below are my new scores. I'm starting to get more consistent with the 28 link in M1, but still haven't had a perfect run yet. M2 is still a struggle for me, especially getting the long link starting before the loop around the tree (occasionally I can include the tree loop in the link too but rarely). I'm starting to get a hand of the stunt ribbons now in M3, but still could be more consistent at getting dreamies. And M4 is getting a lot better with the 40 link before the wind gusts. And I started using Gillwing as the boss instead of Puffy because he is more predictable for me (Gulpo was the other one I tried but still not good enough).

Spring Valley
Mare 1 - 70300
Mare 2 - 49860
Mare 3 - 105360
Mare 4 - 56870
Total - 547180
Max link is still 28 as I have not yet tried the reverse lap (one day I'll do it for fun).

Boss Times
Gillwing - 112
Gulpo - 102

Next I think I will improve my Soft Museum scores. I read about the stunts in the forums and started playing with it this morning. (edit: removed a theory about infinite links...sometimes it appears you can have an infinite link by doing the small loops, bounce off the ground, and quickly do the small loops agian, but I can't seem to do it consistently enough, and I'm not even sure if you get any extra points for links in this special stunt mode??)

Thanks, Charlie

Here are my Soft Museum scores so far. I'm not sure if I'll get much better than these so I think I'll move onto Frozen Bell next and see if I can better those scores too.

Mare 2 - 78620
Mare 3 - 45750
Mare 4 - 62940

Thanks, Charlie

good stuff, all updated. I prefer Gillwing as well, very reliable once you get the big paraloop down.

Some new scores. Most of my time was spent on Spring Valley. It is by far my favorite at the moment. Still could do better on the stunt ribbons though, especially if I want to get close to Peter's score. Btw, good job Peter! You must be pretty consistent with those stunt ribbons. I've only had a Mare 3 score of 150,000 a couple times, and on average I end up around 120,000 so I have some work to do if I'm gonna get near your record of 200,540. Gsk, you've got a high total too, good job. I'm getting ever so close...I now have a potential of 693,940 so I just have to be more consistent at each mare or better at the stunt ribbons. I still haven't tried the reverse lap either so that could help a bit.

Spring Valley
Mare 1 - 72460
Mare 2 - 61140
Mare 3 - 152200
Mare 4 - 61170
Total - 671240

Splash Garden
Mare 1 - 93790
Mare 2 - 48830
Mare 3 - 84150
Mare 4 - 45090
Total - 467960
Mare 1 max link - 296

Frozen Bell
Mare 1 - 105850
Mare 2 - 82370
Mare 3 - 56520
Mare 4 - 31470
Total - 492160
Mare 1 max link - 340

Twin Seeds
Mare 1 - 12070
Mare 2 - 15830
Total - 98910

Thanks for updating,
Charlie

Edit: Proof for SV Total (fyi, I'm planning on setting up a page on my website when I find some time)
Edit: Removed photo now that I have a higher total

Wow, very impressive jumps there Chralie - you've been working hard! All updated.

Check out Pete's page for a good example of a personal Nights page

SV1 - though reverse laps can get you a better score, I personally find it far less reliable than going forward and using ABPs.

What boss you using anyway?

Thanks gsk. Right now I'm using Gillwing with the large paraloop from underneath. Do you find the ABPs consistent enough to save a lot of time? I haven't tried them much but when I did I had a difficult time not performing stunts. Do you know what the highest SV1 score is using the forward run? I'm assuming the top scores were done using the reverse infinite, but if I could get an extra 2,000 by using ABPs I should try to learn them.

If anyone is interested I put my first video on youtube. It's a full run of Spring Valley with a score of 615,480, so it isn't my best but it shows what strategies I use.

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=_TWIejnX4R0

I really need to get to sleep...it's about 2am here...trying to get the video capture software to work took a lot longer than I was hoping! I just bought it tonight so it took me a while to figure it out. Good night!

Gotta love multiple dreamies!!!
Reply Quote
Improved my Spring Valley scores after much effort. This was not easy! I almost had a heart attack during SV3 when I got to the last stunt ribbon. In fact I almost messed it up! Once YouTube finishes processing my video you can watch the whole run. I think I'm getting the hang of these multiple dreamies, or at least what route I like to take. It seems so important to keep changing the direction on the analog stick.

SV1 72460 (unchanged)
SV2 64090
SV3 176460
SV4 61450
SVT 734460

Edit: here's the video: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=JOUH2Yb30w8

Edit2: couple better scores (unfortunately I didn't have a good mare 3 while doing these)
SV1 73400
SV2 64660

Thats great work with multiple dreamies. And thanks for the vids - I'm finding each one very interesting to watch, keep them coming. How are you capturing the saturn output? What kind of card/cable?

Anyway, watching the vids again, I really think ABPs will really help you streamline your game. The main cluster in SV1, the one with the dash token in SV2, the first one on SV4 as well as the one just before the gust of wind. All of them  will save you a second, which all adds up.

Also, if you get all 12 chips pre SV1, instead of the paralooping you can dash through the middle of the cluster getting 5 chips then forgot about the 3 stars and get the 3 chips and thats your 20 - saves you a second.

I'm glad you're liking the vids and thanks for the feedback! I'll have to learn the ABPs sometime. The one time I did try them I kept doing random stunts so I gave up rather quickly, but I'll try again sometime. Has anyone done a video of this technique?

As for capturing the Saturn output, I'm actually using an external USB box from Pinnacle that I use with my laptop. The software has some issues like the audio getting out of sync on long recordings, but it does the job pretty well. A bit pricey but I couldn't find anything much cheaper. At first I tried recording the TV using a video camera but the quality was pretty poor (big black line scrolling down the TV if you know what I mean, and poor audio).

Getting closer...
Reply Quote
Just need a few more dreamies. If I could get 5 more, only 1 more per stunt ribbon, I think that would be enough to acquire my first SR. To be honest though I can't wait to go onto something else. This is the only dream I've been playing for the last couple of weeks and I can't wait to improve my other scores. I played a couple of other dreams while I waited for my video to convert and easily beat my old scores on the first try. Nothing really great but I'll list them anyway.

I'll post the youtube video for my latest SV run as soon as it's finished processing. Edit: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=bYfMJ1w8cT0

SV3 182850 (ignore...see next post)
SV4 62870
SVT 752500 (ignore...see next post)

MF1 55680
MF2 30840
MF3 36540
MFT 286140

SC1 65770
SC2 31710

TS1 12320
TS3 16180

EDIT: Just improved my SV scores again. Only 10,000 away from the SR. Now I'm getting anxious!!
SV2 64700
SV3 192000 (ignore...see next post)
SVT 776740 (ignore...see next post)

Edit: Here is the video of the whole SV run http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=9r7mFCRtsOg
And a video of just the Mare 3 run with multiple dreamies http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=TEzWttCjQ0E

Thanks, Charlie

My First Site Record!!!
Reply Quote
Well, I never thought it would happen, but after much frustration and long nights I have my first site record on the Spring Valley total! Much thanks to everyone on this site who gave me tips and posted strategies and videos. If it wasn't for your help I would have never got this far or at least this quickly.

Peter, I would love for one of us to break 800k! I know you can do it as you still own all the individual mare records. We are so close!

Here are my new scores. I also reposted my SV2 and SV4 scores from the last post in case they get missed...sorry Luigi for all the updates recently! :)

SV2 64700
SV3 200090
SV4 62870

Wow, Charlie, that run of Spring Valley was simply awesome. Way to go on the site record! I look forward to seeing what Dreams you'll conquer next. Good luck, and keep on truckin'!

Sincerely,
Ben

P.S.: I would kill a small kitten to be able to do Dreamies like you do. Life is so not fair.
